The New Year is a great time to reflect on the previous year & reflection is the highest level of learning.  The New Year is a great time to reflect & create anew AND it is a great time to create a new EVERY DAY. I always have new things that I want to do for the year AND I don’t wait until the New Year to start & then have them die out a couple months later. The problem with New Year’s resolutions is that people make these CRAZY goals and don’t stick to them & they don’t have an action plan to get to there goal. It’s not just saying “I am going to lose weight this year.” What is your plan to LOSE weight? What are the actions that you will do to get you there?

Next year I have a New Year’s Resolution. I need to be more responsible for my sleep, BUT that doesn’t mean January 1st is when I start. I am ALREADY being more responsible for my sleep. So what am I doing is I have a sleeping app I track my time & make sure I have at least 7 hours of sleep. Also, I am learning to make a B line for my bed because I am so wired. I am also creating bedtime rituals that would get me to go to bed. Is that a New Year Resolution? Yes & No because I ALREADY started & I don’t wait until January 1st. I like to create things that will stay & create actions that align with it. It is more of a behavior change VS an event that happens in a New Year and then dies out in a couple of months.

A New Year’s Resolution is not a waste of time AND I want people to know that CHANGE can happen in a second. It is the procrastination & the thought around it that takes so long. I don’t like that people have to wait for the New Year. The Fitness industry is a multi-billion dollar industry & so is Obesity. So many people are obsessed and EVERYONE keeps on saying Monday but Monday never works & everyone wants to lose weight for the New Year & that never works. What isn’t working is the LACK of INTEGRITY; people making promises and NEVER keeping them. It is not like they don’t want to keep their promises because of course, you WANT to lose weight, but they don’t have systems in place to keep them. Also, making a goal that is unattainable is something very common. If you tell yourself  “I am going to workout every single day” you are setting yourself up for failure. If you are going to make a New Years Resolution or goals make sure that you CAN achieve them. No one wants to continue to do something that they fail at. For those people that want to work out every day, it better to have range. Never go under 2 to 3 days  and never over 5 to 6 days. BE REAL WITH YOURSELF. So if you fall a little behind you won’t feel like you failed. It’s all about changing your behavior completely because this is stuff you want to stick with for LIFE.

A New Year’s Resolution is ALWAYS being used an excuse & it allows people to fall off the wheel. It is a way for others to do things LATER when they should start NOW. I believe that so many people have a goal of weight loss because it is something that they KEEP saying they want & they KEEP not getting. It is not about losing weight for New Years, weddings, & birthdays because this is something you do for life. You have to train for life and recover from life, there is nothing that should pull you out of the game because the movement is the medicine (unless you’re dead). Many people make so many excuses that pull them away & that is why weight loss is probably the  number New Year’s Resolution. Because they make it, then they don’t do it, then they make it again and it becomes an endless cycle. They are a rat in a trap and they don’t know how to get out.

It is all about setting yourself up to be successful & make an action plan & STARTING NOW. Don’t weigh yourself. Get a pair of jeans you like and get the size you want to be & then FIT INTO THOSE JEANS.
