The Power of Persistence

By Jolie Glassman, Owner of South Beach Boxing and Personal Development Coach

As a personal development coach and trainer, I have seen countless individuals walk away from their life and fitness goals the moment they encounter difficulties.

One of my mottos is: ‘Push hard through extreme times and never, ever, ever give up. Make giving up not an option.’

Persistence is central to reaching any meaningful goal. Understanding why we stall out is the first step toward building the grit required to see things through.

Overcoming Limiting Beliefs and Staying Accountable

One of the main reasons people quit is the belief that their goal is out of reach. When progress feels stalled, doubt takes over.

Working through that plateau requires breaking larger goals down into manageable steps, creating an actionable plan, and maintaining regular accountability. Identifying and challenging limiting beliefs helps you move past mental roadblocks rather than stopping when self-doubt creeps in.

Building Mental Strength in the Gym

Training at my Miami Beach boxing gym is a practical way to develop genuine persistence. Physical conditioning impacts mental toughness directly.

When you push through a tough round or finish a demanding workout, you develop resilience that carries into everyday life. Seeing tangible physical progress reinforces your ability to stay consistent, especially when challenges show up outside the gym.

Finding Clarity and Learning from Setbacks

Another common hurdle is losing motivation along the way. Clarifying the underlying reasons behind your goals helps sustain momentum when immediate enthusiasm fades. Recognizing what specific obstacles stand in your path allows you to address them systematically rather than giving in to frustration.

Real persistence means treating setbacks as data. Every missed target or difficult day offers useful feedback. When you give up, you lose the opportunity to learn what adjustments need to be made. Embrace setbacks as chances to refine your approach and keep moving forward.
