I was a member here 10 years ago for about 11/2 years until I moved away. I had hopes and dreams of making it to the amateur fights, but that got derailed by life. My mindset was different then than it is now. I always loved boxing and liked the exercise but was very off and on. I used to party a lot more and wasn’t so health conscious.
I moved back to the beach and re-signed here 6-7 months ago. I was the heaviest I have ever been. I came back hoping to reignite the desire to train and box for sport. This time around I was more dedicated. I stopped drinking and stopped eating junk food and started finding work closer to home, so that my travels didn’t take me so far away so often. I whole outlook was healthier.
I discovered a discipline and focus within me that transcends outside of the gym. This is my favorite place to come. The people are so encouraging and supportive. They send me text messages if I don’t come, and I have to let them know I am away and not falling off the wagon, I really like that. It’s a really great environment.
This is a REAL boxing gym, everyone who comes here comes to work. I have lost 30lbs since resigning and joining the Bartender Boxing competition. I am so focused and disciplined to keep moving in the same direction. I noticed the changed to my body quite quickly and in no time at all I was reminded of what I had learnt all those years ago. It’s a step by step process that starts with being able to do more and more through a class. You start to notice that you breath better and are not so fatigued at the end. Now some days I am coming to classes twice a day and working out on my own in between.
Finally, I am closer the exclamation point that I want to put on my hope and dream of fighting in an amateur fight which I will do in December.
